Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor, Pinched or shorted sensor wiring harness, Moisture in sensor connector, Failed electronic oven control reading sensor as short

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before working on the range.

  • Access and test sensor:
    • Remove the oven temperature sensor as for F30.
    • Measure resistance at room temperature with a multimeter.
    • A reading near 0 Ω or very low indicates a shorted sensor.
  • Inspect harness for shorts:
    • Follow the sensor wires through the rear of the oven to the control board.
    • Look for areas where the harness may be pinched against metal or melted by the oven.
    • Repair any damaged insulation and reroute away from hot or sharp surfaces.
  • Replace components as needed:
    • Replace the oven temperature sensor if it reads shorted.
    • If sensor and wiring are good but F31 persists, the electronic oven control (EOC) may be faulty and require replacement.
  • Final test: Restore power and run a bake cycle. Confirm stable temperature and no F31 code.
