Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor assembly, Jammed door latch mechanism, Broken or bent latch rod, Faulty door lock switch or wiring, Failed electronic oven control not driving lock motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. The door and internal parts may be very hot if this occurred during self-clean; allow full cooling before working.

  • Try a power reset:
    • Turn off power for 5–10 minutes, then restore.
    • Attempt to start and cancel a clean cycle to see if the lock cycles.
  • Inspect door latch:
    • Check the door latch hook at the top/front of the oven for bending or obstruction.
    • Ensure no debris is blocking the latch from moving.
  • Access lock motor assembly:
    • Remove the rear panel or top panel (depending on model) to access the door lock motor and latch assembly.
    • Visually inspect for broken plastic parts, disconnected rods, or burnt wiring.
  • Test lock motor:
    • With power off, disconnect the lock motor connector.
    • Measure motor coil resistance (typically tens to hundreds of ohms; refer to tech sheet if available).
    • An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Check lock switches:
    • Many Kenmore locks have micro-switches to indicate locked/unlocked position.
    • Test continuity of each switch while manually moving the latch.
  • Replace faulty parts:
    • Replace the door lock motor and latch assembly if motor or mechanism is defective.
    • If lock assembly tests good but F90 persists, suspect the electronic oven control (EOC).
  • Manual door release (if stuck locked):
    • With power off and unit cool, remove the top panel and manually move the latch rod to release the door.
