Possible Causes
Failed broil igniter, Open broil circuit wiring, Faulty oven control broil relay, Defective gas safety valve broil side
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before servicing.
- Check broil operation:
- Restore power and gas, set oven to broil.
- Look for the broil igniter glow at the top of the oven.
- If no glow, or glow without flame, suspect the igniter.
- Test broil igniter:
- Disconnect power and gas.
- Access the broil igniter from inside the oven.
- Disconnect and measure resistance; replace if open or if it glows weakly in operation.
- Inspect wiring:
- Check harness from igniter to gas valve and control.
- Replace igniter:
- Install a new broil igniter compatible with your Kenmore range.
- Further diagnosis:
- If a new igniter does not restore broil, the gas safety valve or control board may be faulty; professional service is recommended.
