Oven door will not close fully or has a gap, heat escapes

Safety first: Ensure oven is cool before working on the door.

• Inspect gasket:
  • Check the rubber door gasket around the oven opening for tears, gaps, or flattening.
  • Replace the oven door gasket if damaged.
• Check hinges:
  • Open the door and inspect hinges for bending or looseness.
  • On many Kenmore models, the door can be removed by opening to the broil stop and lifting off the hinges.
• Replace hinges:
  • If the door sags or will not close tightly, replace both oven door hinges as a set.
• Check door alignment:
  • Reinstall the door and verify even contact with the gasket all around.
