Possible Causes
Food or grease on elements, new-oven protective oils burning off, wiring insulation overheating, failing element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Immediate actions:
- If you see flames, turn off the oven and keep the door closed to smother the fire. Turn off power at the isolator.
- If only smoke or smell: turn off the oven and allow it to cool. Ventilate the room.
Inspection:
- Check for spilled food or grease on the base, grill, or elements. Clean thoroughly with appropriate oven cleaner once cool.
- Inspect the elements and wiring (rear panel removed) for signs of overheating or melting. Replace any damaged components.
- On a new Leisure range, run an initial burn-in cycle at high temperature (e.g. 250°C for 30–60 minutes) with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
Warning: Persistent burning smells with no visible spills may indicate an electrical fault; have the cooker inspected by a technician.
