Possible Causes
Grease or food buildup behind knobs, Cracked knob hubs, Worn gas valve stems, Misaligned knob installation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burners and ensure they are cool. For gas valves, do not apply lubricants that are not rated for gas service.
Steps:
- Remove knobs: Pull the knobs straight off the shafts.
- Clean area: Clean the panel and around the valve stems with mild detergent and a cloth. Do not flood the stems with liquid.
- Inspect knobs: Check for cracks in the plastic hubs. Replace knobs that do not grip the shaft firmly.
- Valve condition: If knobs remain stiff, the gas valves may be worn. Replacing gas valves requires disassembling the manifold and should be done by a qualified technician.
Tip: Periodic cleaning behind knobs prevents buildup that can affect operation.
