Possible Causes
Burned-out coil element, Loose receptacle contacts, Failed infinite switch, Broken wiring between switch and element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing elements or panels.
Steps:
- Swap test: On plug-in coil elements, swap the non-heating element with a known good one of the same size. If the problem follows the element, replace it. If not, suspect the receptacle or switch.
- Inspect receptacle: Check for burned or loose contacts in the element receptacle. Replace the receptacle kit if damaged.
- Test infinite switch: Remove the back panel and test the infinite switch for continuity between terminals as you turn the knob. Replace if open in all positions.
- Wiring: Repair any burned or broken wires between the switch and element.
Note: For smooth-top radiant elements, test continuity of the element and replace the radiant element or control as needed.
