Possible Causes
Open or shorted surface element temperature sensor, Failed thermistor on glass cooktop, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main power board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify the cooktop is cool before lifting the glass.
Steps:
- Access sensor: Remove mounting screws and carefully lift the glass top. Support it to avoid stress cracks.
- Locate sensor: Identify the sensor or thermistor associated with the burner showing E1. It is usually clipped near the element.
- Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the service manual spec (commonly in the 50–200 kΩ range depending on design). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the main control/power board for damage or loose connectors. Repair as needed.
- Control board: If the sensor and wiring are good, the main power board may be defective and require replacement.
Note: Handle the glass top carefully; a small chip can propagate into a full crack under heat.
