Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.
Steps to try:
- Power reset: Turn the range breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then back ON. If F1 returns immediately, the fault is usually in the keypad or control board.
- Check for stuck keys: With power OFF, press each keypad button firmly several times to free any stuck contacts. Restore power and test.
- Inspect ribbon cable: Remove the backguard/control panel cover. Locate the flat ribbon cable from the touchpad to the electronic oven control (EOC). Reseat the connector (unplug and plug back in) and check for corrosion or burns.
- Isolate keypad vs. board: With power OFF, disconnect the keypad ribbon from the EOC. Restore power. If F1 clears and does not reappear, the keypad/touch panel is defective. If F1 persists with the keypad disconnected, the EOC is defective.
- Replace failed part: Order the correct Magic Chef control panel/touchpad or EOC using the full model number from the frame tag (usually behind the oven door or drawer). Transfer wires one at a time to the new board, mount it, and reassemble the backguard.
When to stop: If you smell burning, see scorched wiring, or are unsure about live-voltage testing, stop and contact a qualified appliance technician.
