Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Melted sensor harness insulation, Failed EOC sensor input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Allow the oven to cool before working.
Steps:
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Access the oven sensor as for F3. Check the sensor lead wires for melted insulation or contact with the metal oven liner.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. A shorted sensor will read very low resistance (near 0 Ω). Replace with a new Magic Chef-compatible sensor if shorted.
- Check harness to EOC: Remove the rear cover and trace the sensor harness to the control board. Look for pinched or melted sections where the harness may touch the chassis. Repair or replace damaged wiring and secure it with high-temp clips or ties.
- Control board: If the sensor and harness are good but F4 persists, the EOC sensor circuit may be shorted internally. Replace the EOC.
Warning: Do not bypass the sensor or operate the oven with a known sensor fault; this can cause dangerous overheating.
