Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. The door lock system can move unexpectedly when powered.
Steps:
- Check door alignment: Ensure the oven door closes fully and evenly. If the door is sagging, adjust hinges or tighten hinge screws.
- Inspect latch: Open the door and inspect the latch hook on the door and the receiver on the frame. Look for bending or damage. Gently straighten minor bends.
- Access lock assembly: Remove the back panel or top panel (depending on model) to access the door lock motor assembly. Inspect for broken plastic parts, loose linkage, or burnt smell.
- Test lock switches: With power OFF, disconnect the lock switch connectors and test continuity with a multimeter while manually moving the lock arm. Replace the lock motor/switch assembly if switches do not change state.
- Wiring: Check the harness from the lock assembly to the EOC for breaks or loose connectors. Repair as needed.
Note: If the door is stuck locked, you may need to manually release the lock from the top or rear with power off. Refer to the service manual for your specific Magic Chef model.
