Possible Causes
Weak bake igniter causing delayed ignition, Failing oven thermostat (mechanical models), Faulty oven temperature sensor (electronic models), Mis-calibrated EOC
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before removing panels. Surfaces may be hot.
Steps:
- Verify temperature: Place an oven thermometer in the center of the oven and run at 350°F for 20–30 minutes. Compare actual vs. set temperature.
- Check sensor or thermostat: On electronic Magic Chef ranges, test the oven sensor resistance and replace if out of spec. On mechanical knob models, the oven thermostat may need replacement or calibration.
- Ignition timing: Observe how long it takes for the burner to light after the igniter glows. If it takes more than 60 seconds or cycles erratically, replace the igniter.
- Calibrate control: Use the user menu or thermostat adjustment screw (if provided) to fine-tune temperature by ±25–35°F.
Note: Always re-test with an oven thermometer after any adjustment or part replacement.
