Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, Misaligned burner cap, Failed spark igniter electrode, Defective spark module, No power to ignition system
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off burner knobs and ensure no gas odor is present before working. Disconnect power before accessing ignition components.
Steps:
- Cap alignment: Remove and reseat the burner cap so it sits flat and centered on the burner base.
- Clean burner: Use a needle or small brush to clean burner ports and the small ignition port near the electrode. Do not enlarge holes.
- Check spark: With power connected and gas off, turn the knob to LITE and observe for spark at the electrode. If no spark, test other burners. If none spark, suspect the spark module or power supply. If only one fails, replace that electrode or its wiring.
- Replace parts: Replace the surface burner igniter electrode for the affected burner, or the spark module if multiple burners fail to spark.
Warning: Never use an open flame to check for gas leaks. Use a soap solution instead.
