Electric surface element will not heat on a coil-top Maytag range

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing elements.

• Swap elements: Move the non-heating coil element to another same-size burner position. If it still does not heat, the element is bad; replace it. If it works in the new position, suspect the switch or receptacle.
• Inspect receptacle: Look for burned or loose contacts in the element receptacle. Replace the receptacle if damaged.
• Test infinite switch: Remove the back panel and test the switch for continuity between terminals as you turn the knob. Replace the switch if it does not switch properly.
• Check wiring: Repair any burned or broken wires with high-temperature wire and proper connectors.
