Possible Causes

Open oven temperature sensor, Broken sensor wiring harness, Loose sensor connector at EOC

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing any internal components.

  • Locate the sensor: Open the oven door and look for a thin metal rod (temperature sensor) protruding from the rear wall, usually upper left or upper center.
  • Check connections: Remove the two mounting screws holding the sensor, gently pull it forward, and inspect the wiring connector. Ensure it is fully seated and not burned or broken.
  • Test resistance: With the sensor unplugged and the range still disconnected from power, use a multimeter set to ohms. At room temperature (~70°F / 21°C), a typical Maytag sensor should read about 1050–1100 Ω. If it reads open (OL) or far outside this range, the sensor is bad.
  • Inspect harness: If the sensor tests good, trace the harness back to the control board from the rear of the range. Look for pinched, cut, or burned wires and repair or replace as needed.
  • Replace sensor if faulty: Install a new OEM oven temperature sensor, secure with screws, and reconnect the harness.
  • If code persists: The EOC may have a failed sensor input circuit and will need replacement.
