Possible Causes
Failed door latch motor, Jammed latch mechanism, Broken latch cam, EOC not sending proper voltage to latch motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. If the door is locked with food inside, do not force it open; wait for the oven to cool and then proceed.
- Manual release (if needed): On many Maytag models, you can access the latch from the top by removing the cooktop or from the rear by removing the back panel. Manually move the latch to unlock the door.
- Inspect latch motor: Check for signs of overheating or physical damage. If the motor does not move when self-clean is started (with power restored and extreme caution), it is likely defective.
- Check voltage (advanced): With the range powered and using proper electrical safety, measure voltage at the latch motor when a clean cycle is initiated. If proper voltage is present but the motor does not move, replace the latch assembly. If no voltage, suspect the EOC.
- Lubricate lightly: If the latch is stiff but not broken, a small amount of high-temperature lubricant on the pivot points can help, but do not over-lubricate.
