Gas surface burner will not ignite, clicking is heard but no flame

Safety first: Turn off burner knobs and ensure there is no gas smell before working. Do not use open flames to test for gas leaks.

• Check burner cap: Ensure the cap is properly seated and centered on the burner base.
• Clean burner: Remove the cap and burner head. Clean ports with a soft brush or a wooden toothpick (never metal) to clear debris.
• Inspect igniter: Make sure the igniter tip is clean and not cracked. Wipe with a dry cloth.
• Test gas flow: Light the burner with a long match or lighter (if safe and allowed by local codes). If it lights manually, the issue is ignition; if not, the gas valve or orifice may be blocked and should be serviced by a technician.
