Possible Causes
Element shorted to ground, Pinched or bare wiring, Shorted control board, Damaged terminal block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Leave the breaker OFF until the fault is found. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker.
- Inspect elements: Check bake, broil, and surface elements for visible damage or contact with metal chassis.
- Test for ground fault: With power off, disconnect one wire from each element and test resistance from element terminal to chassis. Any continuity indicates a shorted element; replace it.
- Inspect wiring: Look for pinched or melted wires, especially where they pass through metal openings. Repair with high-temp wire and grommets.
- Check terminal block and cord: Replace any burned or shorted parts.
- Control board: If all else checks good, the EOC or cooktop module may be internally shorted and require replacement.
