Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor, Shorted oven sensor wiring harness, Stuck closed bake or broil relay on EOC, Poor oven cavity ventilation or blocked vents
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before working inside the cavity or behind the range.
Step-by-step:
- Check for obvious overheating: Look for melted racks, foil covering the entire oven bottom, or blocked vents at the rear of the oven cavity. Remove any foil that blocks airflow.
- Inspect the oven temperature sensor: Locate the thin metal rod (sensor) protruding from the rear wall inside the oven. Remove its mounting screws and gently pull it forward to access the connector.
- Test resistance (if you have a meter): With the sensor disconnected and at room temperature, measure resistance across the two sensor leads. A typical Premier sensor should read around 1050–1100 Ω at 70°F (21°C). If it is far outside this range (open or shorted), replace the sensor.
- Check wiring: Inspect the sensor harness from the sensor to the EOC for pinched, burned, or broken insulation. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Control board check: If the sensor and wiring are good but F2 persists, the bake or broil relay on the EOC may be stuck closed, causing runaway heat. Replace the Electronic Oven Control (EOC).
- Reassemble: Reinstall the sensor, secure wiring away from hot surfaces, reattach the back panel, restore power, and test a low-temperature bake (e.g., 300°F) while monitoring for normal cycling.
