Possible Causes
Dirty or misaligned oven igniter, Weak hot surface igniter drawing low current, Faulty flame sensor (if separate), Gas valve not opening fully
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect power before servicing ignition components. If you smell strong gas, ventilate the area and do not operate electrical switches.
Step-by-step:
- Observe ignition: With panels in place, restore gas and power, then start a bake cycle. Look through the oven window to see if the igniter glows and if the burner lights. Turn off power again before touching components.
- Clean igniter and burner: Remove the oven bottom panel to access the bake burner and igniter. Gently brush away debris and baked-on residue from the burner ports and around the igniter.
- Check igniter alignment: Ensure the igniter tip is positioned close to the burner holes where gas exits.
- Test igniter (if you have a meter): A weak hot surface igniter may glow but not draw enough current to open the gas valve. Measure igniter resistance and compare to Premier specifications; replace if out of range or if ignition is delayed more than 60–90 seconds.
- Inspect wiring: Check the igniter harness and connections to the gas valve and EOC for damage or loose plugs.
- Replace parts as needed: Commonly, replacing the bake igniter resolves no flame errors. If the igniter is new and correctly installed but gas does not flow, the oven gas safety valve may be faulty.
