Possible Causes
Metal panels expanding and contracting, Delayed gas ignition causing small explosions, Loose burner mounting screws, Warped oven liner or racks
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Distinguish between normal expansion noises and dangerous ignition bangs. If bangs are accompanied by visible flame bursts or strong gas odor, shut off gas and call a technician.
Step-by-step:
- Identify source: Listen carefully to locate whether the noise comes from the oven cavity, cooktop, or rear of the range.
- Tighten hardware: With power and gas off, tighten loose burner mounting screws, rack supports, and panel screws.
- Check ignition timing (gas): If the oven burner ignites with a loud bang after a delay, the igniter may be weak. Replace the bake igniter.
- Normal expansion: Some popping from sheet metal is normal as the oven heats and cools, especially on new Premier ranges. This usually diminishes with use.
