Possible Causes
Spillage or cleaning fluid in control knob switch, stuck microswitch under knob, shorted ignition wiring, faulty ignition module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burners and ensure there is no gas smell. Unplug the cooker or switch off at the mains to stop the clicking.
Steps to check:
- Dry out moisture: If the issue started after a spill or cleaning, leave the hob to dry for several hours. You can gently warm the area with the oven (if separate) or use a fan to speed drying.
- Check knobs: Remove the control knobs and clean around the spindle area. Ensure no liquid or debris is jamming the switch.
- Test each knob: With power restored, turn each knob one at a time to identify if one switch causes continuous sparking. If one control is at fault, its microswitch may need replacement.
- Inspect ignition module and wiring (qualified persons): Access the underside of the hob, check for damaged insulation or arcing marks on the ignition leads. Replace any burnt leads.
- If clicking persists on all burners: The ignition module may be stuck on and should be replaced.
