Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor, broken door latch microswitch, misaligned door latch, damaged wiring between lock and control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the mains. If the door is locked with food inside, allow the oven to cool before attempting to open.

Steps to check:

  • Power reset: Isolate power for 10 minutes, then restore. Sometimes the lock motor can reset.
  • Check door alignment: Ensure the oven door closes squarely and the latch tongue engages fully with the frame. Adjust hinges if the door is sagging.
  • Access lock assembly: Remove the top panel or front trim (depending on model) to reach the door lock motor and microswitches.
  • Inspect mechanism: Look for broken plastic parts, seized linkage, or signs of overheating. Lubricate lightly with high-temperature-safe lubricant if stiff.
  • Test microswitches: With a multimeter, check continuity of the lock switches while manually operating the lock. Replace the door lock assembly if switches do not change state reliably.
  • Check wiring: Verify that the lock motor and switches are firmly connected to the control PCB.
  • If the lock motor is burnt or jammed: Replace the complete door lock assembly. This is usually supplied as a single Rangemaster part.
