Possible Causes
Blocked cooling vents, failed cooling fan, dust buildup on heat sinks, defective temperature sensor on power module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the mains before accessing the hob internals.
Steps to check:
- Ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance under the hob as per Rangemaster installation instructions. Remove any stored items blocking airflow in the cabinet below.
- Cooling fan operation: With the hob re-energised, start a low-power setting and listen for the cooling fan. It should run during and after cooking. If silent, the fan may be seized or failed.
- Access fan: Remove the hob from the worktop and take off the lower cover. Locate the cooling fan near the power modules.
- Clean and inspect: Remove dust and grease from the fan and heat sinks using a soft brush and vacuum. Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely.
- Test fan supply: With power off, check the fan wiring and connector. With power on (only for qualified persons), measure voltage at the fan terminals when the hob is running. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan.
- If fan and airflow are OK: The temperature sensor on the power module or the module itself may be faulty. Replacement of the induction power module is recommended.
