Possible Causes
Faulty oven ignition electrode, blocked oven burner, failed oven thermocouple or flame sensor, gas valve fault for oven circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the oven control to OFF if ignition fails. Do not repeatedly attempt to light if you can smell gas. Ventilate the room.
Steps to check:
- Check other gas functions: Confirm that hob burners and grill operate normally. If none work, the main gas supply or safety device is at fault.
- Observe ignition: With the oven door open and a safe view of the burner, start the oven. Look for a spark at the electrode and gas flow at the burner.
- Clean burner: Once cool and gas is off, remove the oven base panel and burner (if accessible). Clean ports and the area around the electrode.
- Inspect electrode and wiring: Check for cracks in the ceramic insulator or loose connections. Replace the electrode if damaged.
- If there is spark but no gas: The oven gas valve or safety device may be faulty. This work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
