Safety first: Isolate the cooker from the mains before accessing hob components.

Steps to check:

Test other plates: Confirm whether the issue is limited to one hotplate.
Access underside: Remove the hob top or underside panel to access the hotplate terminals and regulators.
Inspect wiring: Look for burnt or loose connections at the hotplate and control switch.
Test element: Disconnect the hotplate and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed element.
Check regulator: If the element is OK but only heats on full or not at all, the energy regulator may be faulty and should be replaced.
