Possible Causes
Open line leg to surface element circuit, Burnt wire at terminal block, Failed cooktop power relay on control board, Disconnected cooktop harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify with a meter before touching wiring.
- Check terminal block: Remove the rear cover and inspect the terminal block where the power cord connects. Look for burnt or loose connections, especially on one hot leg.
- Inspect cooktop harness: Trace the harness from the terminal block/control to the cooktop. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not burnt.
- Control relay (if equipped): Some RCA models route cooktop power through a relay on the control board. If the relay is burnt or not energizing, replace the electronic oven control board.
- Verify voltage: With a qualified person, verify correct voltage is present at the cooktop input when a burner is turned on.
