Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck bake or broil relay on control board, Poor sensor harness connection, Incorrect oven calibration or damaged wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before working inside.
- Visual check: Inspect the oven cavity for foil covering the bottom or blocking vents, which can cause overheating. Remove any foil or obstructions.
- Check oven sensor: Access the oven temperature sensor (usually a thin metal rod at the back wall inside the oven). From the rear of the range, locate its connector. With power OFF, disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter: at room temperature (~70°F/21°C) it should be around 1050–1100 Ω. If it is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the bake or broil relay on the electronic oven control may be stuck closed. Replace the electronic oven control board.
