Possible Causes

Failed oven cooling fan motor, Blocked cooling air vents, Faulty fan relay on control board, Open or shorted over-temperature thermostat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the appliance to cool completely before servicing.

  • Check vents: Ensure that the rear and top vents of the range are not blocked by cabinets, foil, or other obstructions. Clear any blockages.
  • Listen for fan: During a bake cycle, you should hear the internal cooling fan run (on models equipped). If F8 appears and the fan never runs, suspect the fan circuit.
  • Test fan motor: With power OFF, access the cooling fan from the rear. Check for free blade movement. With a multimeter, test the fan motor for continuity. An open motor must be replaced.
  • Check thermostat: Some RCA models use a high-limit thermostat in series with the fan. Test it for continuity when cool; replace if open.
  • Control board: If fan and thermostat test good, the fan relay on the control board may be faulty. Replace the electronic oven control board.
