Possible Causes
Failed door lock motor assembly, Broken or jammed lock latch, Faulty door lock switch, Wiring issue between lock and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before attempting to manually unlock or service the door lock.
- Power reset: Turn off the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power and attempt to cancel the cycle. Sometimes the lock will reset.
- Check for mechanical jam: Inspect the door latch area for bent metal, debris, or misalignment preventing the latch from moving freely.
- Manual release: On many RCA ranges, you can access the lock mechanism by removing the top panel or rear panel and manually moving the lock arm to release the door. Do this gently to avoid bending parts.
- Test lock assembly: With power OFF, test the door lock motor and switches for continuity using a multimeter. Replace the door lock motor assembly if the motor is open or switches do not change state when actuated.
- Inspect wiring: Check harness from lock assembly to control board for damage or loose connectors. Repair as needed.
