Possible Causes
Failed hot surface igniter, No gas flow through oven safety valve, Open oven thermostat or control relay, Broken igniter wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before accessing the oven burner. Avoid sparks and open flames.
- Observe igniter: With the oven set to bake, look through the bottom panel (if safe) to see if the hot surface igniter glows. If it does not glow at all, suspect the igniter or its circuit.
- Test igniter: Disconnect the oven igniter and test for continuity. Replace if open or if it glows very weakly (dull orange) but does not open the gas valve.
- Check safety valve: If the igniter glows bright but no flame appears, the oven safety valve may be faulty. Have a qualified technician test and replace it if necessary.
- Inspect wiring: Check wiring from the control to the igniter and valve for burns or breaks. Repair as needed.
