Possible Causes
Burned-out surface element, Failed infinite burner switch, Loose or burnt wire at element terminal, Faulty surface element receptacle (for plug-in coils)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing any elements or panels.
- Test other elements: Confirm that other surface elements heat properly. If only one element fails, the issue is local to that burner circuit.
- Coil element models: Remove the suspect coil and inspect the terminals and the surface element receptacle for burns or looseness. Replace the coil or receptacle if damaged.
- Radiant glass-top models: Lift the cooktop (after removing mounting screws). Visually inspect the radiant element for breaks or burn spots. Test the element for continuity with a multimeter; replace if open.
- Check infinite switch: If the element tests good, test the corresponding infinite burner switch for continuity between terminals as you turn the knob. Replace the switch if it does not switch properly.
