Possible Causes
Open heating element (ceramic), Failed induction coil, Faulty zone relay on power board, Broken wiring to zone
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before opening the cooktop.
Steps:
- Confirm symptom: Test other zones. If only one zone fails, focus on that circuit.
- Access internals: Remove the cooktop from the counter and take off the bottom cover.
- Inspect wiring: Check the wires from the power board to the affected element/coil for burns or loose connectors.
- Test element/coil: Use a multimeter to measure resistance of the ceramic element or induction coil. An open circuit indicates a failed component.
- Replace component: Install a new SMEG element or coil assembly. If the element is good but no power is supplied, the power board relay for that zone may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
Warning: Induction units contain high-voltage components; only qualified persons should test live circuits.
