Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Induction units contain high-voltage capacitors. Disconnect power at the breaker and wait at least 10 minutes before opening the unit.
Steps:
- Check cookware: Use flat-bottom, ferromagnetic cookware (a magnet should stick strongly to the base). Avoid warped or undersized pans. Try a different pan on the same zone.
- Clean glass surface: Wipe the zone with a soft cloth to remove spills or residue that may interfere with pan detection.
- Power reset: Turn off the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power and test again.
- Internal inspection (advanced): Remove the cooktop from the counter and take off the bottom cover. Locate the induction coil for the affected zone and inspect the wiring to the power module for loose or burned connectors.
- Coil and sensor check: Look for cracks in the coil, burnt spots, or detached temperature sensor. If damaged, replace the coil assembly for that zone.
Warning: If you are not experienced with high-voltage electronics, do not attempt internal repairs. Call a SMEG-authorized service center.
