If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the appliance and allow it to cool completely. Turn off power at the breaker before removing any panels.
Steps:
- Ventilation check: Ensure there is adequate clearance under the cooktop as per SMEG installation manual. Remove any stored items blocking airflow.
- Clean vents: Vacuum dust and debris from ventilation grilles and under the cooktop.
- Cooling fan operation: Turn power back on and run the cooktop at low power. Listen for the internal cooling fan. If the fan does not run or is noisy, it may be seized or failed and should be replaced.
- Inspect fan and ducts: With power off again, remove the bottom cover and check the fan blades for obstructions and the wiring harness for damage.
- Sensor/module replacement: If airflow and fan are good but E2 recurs quickly, the temperature sensor on the coil or the power module may be faulty and require replacement.
Warning: Do not bypass thermal protections. Persistent E2 errors should be addressed by a qualified technician to avoid fire risk.
