Possible Causes

Prolonged high-power operation, Blocked ventilation, Failed temperature sensor on glass or coil, Incorrect installation over oven without ventilation gap

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off all zones and allow the cooktop to cool. Switch off power at the breaker before removing any panels.

Steps:

  • Allow cooling: Wait until the glass is completely cool, then try again. If E5 clears, it may have been a temporary overheat.
  • Check installation: Verify that the cooktop has the required clearance above an oven and that any cross-bracing or insulation is not blocking airflow.
  • Clean and clear vents: Remove dust and obstructions from intake and exhaust vents under the cooktop.
  • Sensor inspection: With the bottom cover removed (power off), locate the temperature sensors attached to the glass or coils. Ensure they are firmly attached and wiring is intact.
  • Replace faulty sensor: If a sensor is loose, damaged, or reading incorrectly (requires meter and service data), replace the sensor harness.

Warning: Persistent E5 errors indicate a real overheating risk. Do not continue using the appliance until the cause is identified.
