Possible Causes
Weak or damaged thermocouple, Misaligned flame not heating sensor, Loose thermocouple connection at gas valve, Faulty safety gas valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before accessing burner assemblies.
Steps:
- Observe flame: Light the burner and watch whether the flame properly envelops the thermocouple tip. Adjust the burner cap if needed.
- Clean thermocouple: Gently clean the thermocouple tip with fine steel wool to remove oxidation.
- Check connections: Under the cooktop, ensure the thermocouple nut is tight at the gas valve and that the wire is not kinked or damaged.
- Replace thermocouple: If the flame goes out as soon as you release the knob, replace the thermocouple for that burner.
- Gas valve: If a new thermocouple does not hold the flame, the safety gas valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified gas technician.
Warning: Gas work must comply with local regulations. If you are not licensed, use a professional.
