Possible Causes
Spill or moisture in knob area, Stuck burner switch, Shorted ignition switch wiring, Faulty ignition module sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to stop the clicking. Turn off gas if you smell gas.
Steps:
- Dry the cooktop: If a spill occurred, remove burner caps and knobs. Allow the area to dry completely. Use a hair dryer on low to gently dry around the switches.
- Inspect switches: Under the top, locate the small microswitches attached to each gas valve. Check for signs of corrosion or physical damage.
- Switch test: With power disconnected, use a multimeter to test each switch for proper open/closed operation when the knob is turned.
- Replace faulty switch: Replace any switch that remains closed when the knob is off.
- Ignition module: If all switches are good but clicking persists when powered, replace the ignition module.
Warning: Do not operate the cooktop with exposed live ignition wiring.
