Possible Causes
Open or shorted oven temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Loose connector at control board, Failed electronic thermostat input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Confirm the oven is cold before working inside.
Steps:
- Locate sensor: Inside the oven cavity, find the temperature sensor probe (usually at the rear upper area). Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward.
- Check connections: Inspect the sensor connector behind the rear panel or at the control board. Ensure it is fully seated and not corroded.
- Resistance test (if equipped): With a multimeter, measure the sensor resistance at room temperature (typically around 1000–1100 Ω at 20–25°C for many SMEG sensors). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- Replace sensor: Install a new OEM SMEG oven temperature sensor, route the wires away from hot surfaces, and secure with screws.
- Control board: If a known-good sensor still gives F01, the electronic thermostat/control board may be faulty and require replacement.
Warning: Do not operate the oven with a bypassed or incorrect sensor; this is a fire hazard.
