Possible Causes
Open grill element, Burned wiring to grill, Faulty relay on control board, Overtemperature cut-out open on grill circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Confirm the oven is cool.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Inspect the grill/broil element for visible breaks, blisters, or burn marks.
- Continuity test: Disconnect the element terminals (rear or top access) and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element.
- Check wiring: Inspect wires and terminals for heat damage. Repair or replace any burnt connectors.
- Replace element: Install a new SMEG grill element if faulty. Ensure it is properly supported and terminals are tight.
- Control board: If the element and wiring are good but no power is supplied during grill mode, the control board relay may be defective.
Warning: Always secure the element properly; loose elements can short to the cavity.
