Possible Causes
No mains power to ignition, Failed ignition module, Blown internal fuse, Loose power connection to cooktop
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burner knobs. If you smell gas, turn off the gas supply and ventilate the area.
Steps:
- Check power: Verify that the cooktop/range is plugged in and that the circuit breaker is on. Test the outlet with another appliance.
- Manual lighting test: With caution, try lighting a burner with a long match or lighter. If it lights, the gas system is working and the issue is with ignition only.
- Inspect power cord and terminal: Disconnect power and access the rear or bottom to check the power cord and terminal block for loose or burnt connections.
- Check internal fuse: Some SMEG models have an internal fuse on the ignition circuit. Replace if blown with the same rating.
- Replace ignition module: If power is present but there is no clicking on any burner, replace the ignition module.
Warning: Do not leave burners lit with a match as a permanent solution; repair the ignition system properly.
