Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.
Steps to check:
- Power reset: Turn the range breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then back ON. If F1 returns quickly, continue below.
- Inspect control panel: Remove the backguard panel screws to access the electronic oven control (EOC) and keypad ribbon cable.
- Check keypad ribbon: Gently unplug the flat ribbon cable from the EOC. Look for corrosion, burnt spots, or moisture. Clean the connector with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and let dry.
- Test with ribbon disconnected: With power still OFF, leave the keypad ribbon disconnected and restore power. If F1 persists with the keypad unplugged, the EOC is likely bad. If F1 disappears, the keypad/touch membrane is faulty.
- Replace failed part: If keypad is integrated with the glass control panel, replace the entire control panel assembly. If separate, replace only the touchpad. If EOC is bad, replace the electronic oven control board, transferring wires one at a time to the new board.
When to stop: If you smell burning, see arcing, or are unsure about wiring connections, stop and contact a qualified appliance technician.
