Possible Causes
Failed hot surface igniter, No gas supply or closed gas shutoff valve, Faulty oven safety valve, Defective spark module (for spark ignition models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and power before removing panels. If you smell strong gas, ventilate the area and contact your gas supplier or a technician immediately.
Steps to check:
- Verify gas supply: Ensure the manual gas shutoff valve to the range is fully open and other gas appliances work.
- Observe ignition: With the oven set to bake, look through the burner area. A hot surface igniter should glow bright orange. If it does not glow, it is likely faulty.
- Test igniter: Disconnect power, access the igniter under the oven floor, and measure resistance. A cracked or open igniter must be replaced.
- Check safety valve: If the igniter glows but the burner never lights, the igniter may be weak (not drawing enough current) or the safety valve may be defective. Replace the igniter first; if the problem persists, have a technician test and replace the safety valve.
