Possible Causes

Spilled grease on oven bottom or burner, Protective oils burning off new elements, Food debris in broiler pan, Foil blocking airflow

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure good ventilation. If smoke is heavy, turn off the appliance and open windows.

  • Initial burn-in: For new Summit ranges, run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues. Expect some odor.
  • Clean spills: Once cool, clean the oven cavity, racks, and cooktop with a non-abrasive cleaner. Remove heavy grease from the oven bottom and under burner caps.
  • Avoid foil on bottom: Do not line the oven bottom with foil, as it can trap heat and cause burning odors.
  • Check drip pans: Clean or replace drip pans under coil elements if heavily soiled.
