Possible Causes

Failed spark ignition module, Shorted spark electrode, Moisture in ignition wiring, Stuck ignition switch on a burner knob

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the cooktop and close the gas supply valve before working on ignition components.

Steps:

  • Dry out moisture: If E4 appeared after cleaning or a spill, remove burner caps and allow the cooktop to dry for several hours. Use a fan to speed drying.
  • Check burner switches: Remove the control knobs and inspect the small ignition switches on the valve stems. If one is stuck closed or wet, it can cause continuous sparking. Gently dry and ensure they move freely.
  • Inspect spark electrodes: Look for cracked ceramic insulators or carbon tracking. Clean with a soft brush and ensure the metal tip is about 3–5 mm from the burner cap.
  • Check ignition module connections: Access the underside of the cooktop. Verify that all high-voltage leads are firmly connected to the spark generator and electrodes. Look for burn marks on the module.

If the module is receiving power but no sparks are produced, or E4 persists, replace the spark ignition module.
