Possible Causes
Faulty thermocouple sensor, Misaligned flame not heating thermocouple, Loose thermocouple connection at gas valve, Defective safety gas valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Work with gas components only if you are confident; otherwise, call a technician.
Steps:
- Light the burner and keep the knob pressed for 10–15 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat fully. If the flame still goes out, proceed.
- Ensure the flame directly contacts the thermocouple tip; clean burner ports or adjust cap if needed.
- Inspect the thermocouple for soot or damage; clean the tip gently with fine abrasive pad.
- Check that the thermocouple nut at the gas valve is tight.
If the issue persists, replace the thermocouple. If a new thermocouple does not hold, the safety valve may be faulty.
