Possible Causes
Misaligned or dirty thermocouple tip, Weak flame not heating sensor, Faulty thermocouple, Defective safety valve magnet coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and allow burners to cool before touching any components.
- Clean the burner and thermocouple: Remove burner cap and head. Clean ports and the thermocouple tip with a soft brush to remove grease and carbon.
- Check flame quality: Reassemble and light the burner. The flame should be blue and should directly contact the thermocouple tip. Adjust cap position if needed.
- Hold knob longer: After ignition, keep the knob pressed for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat and keep the valve open.
When to call a technician: If the flame still goes out and F2 appears, the thermocouple or safety valve is likely defective and must be replaced.
