Gas burner ignites but goes out when the knob is released.

Safety first: Turn off gas before cleaning. Components may be hot.

• Clean thermocouple: Gently clean the thermocouple tip with fine steel wool or a soft abrasive pad to remove oxidation.
• Check flame contact: Ensure the flame directly touches the thermocouple. Adjust burner cap position if needed.
• Hold knob longer: After ignition, keep the knob pressed for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat sufficiently.

When to call a technician: If the flame still goes out, the thermocouple or safety valve must be tested and replaced.
