Possible Causes
Weak flame due to low gas pressure, Dirty burner ports, Faulty flame sensor (ionization electrode), Drafts blowing flame away
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure adequate ventilation and no gas odor before troubleshooting.
- Observe flame: Light the burner and watch the flame. It should be blue and stable around the burner ring. Yellow, lifting, or unstable flames indicate a gas/air issue.
- Clean burner ports: Use a soft brush or a wooden toothpick to clear clogged ports. Do not use metal objects that can enlarge the holes.
- Check for drafts: Avoid strong drafts from open windows or range hoods on high speed that can blow out the flame.
- Inspect flame sensor: On some models, the igniter also serves as a flame sensor. Ensure it is clean and properly positioned in the flame.
If the burner lights but consistently shuts off with d2, the flame sensing electrode or associated wiring may be faulty and should be replaced.
