Possible Causes

Blocked cooling vents, Failed cooling fan, Overheated induction module, Poor cookware contact causing localized overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Surfaces and internal components may be very hot. Allow at least 30 minutes of cooling with power off before internal inspection.

  • Let unit cool: Turn off all burners and allow the cooktop to cool completely. E2 often clears after cooling.
  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance under the cooktop per Thermador installation specs. Remove any items stored in the cabinet that may block airflow.
  • Inspect cooling fan operation: With power restored, turn on a burner at medium power and listen for the internal fan. You should hear a low hum or airflow. If silent, the fan may have failed.
  • Clean intake/exhaust: Vacuum dust and debris from the cooling air inlets and outlets under the cooktop.
  • Test with lower power: Run the same zone at a lower setting. If E2 only appears at high power, the module may be overheating prematurely.

If E2 recurs quickly even with good ventilation and a working fan, the induction power module or temperature sensor on the module is likely defective and should be replaced.
